SOI Motorhome Club's May E-Newsletter, October 29th, 2018

To SOI RV Club Members,

A lot has happened since our last update in May. As we mentioned in the last newsletter, our annual Chapter meeting will be on December 31st in the Big Tent at Santa Anita Racetrack. We still have a few sites left for the Rose Parade Rally this year. Come join us while we celebrate our 40th year as a Chapter.

We have changed the itinerary a little for our Alaska adventure in 2019. We are still beginning in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, but will be finishing our 61 Day adventure in Minot, ND at FMCA’s 100th International Convention, on August 13th. We still have 2 spots left on this Rolling Adventure.

We will be participating in the Chapter Fair at the Western Area Rally after the Rose Parade Rally. Let us know if you are going to be at the Rally and are willing to assist at the SOI Chapter table. If we have enough members at the rally we will see if we can schedule a social.

The end of February we will be doing our annual Rolling Rally to Rocky Point. If you haven’t been there, it is a relaxing few days on the beach. Cost for the inclusive rally is $895 per unit with 2 people and includes a sunset cruise, meals with a view and plenty of shopping time or just enjoying the sun on the beach. It looks like we may have extra beachfront sites this year. If you would like to just come down to Rocky Point and spend time on the beach the cost for 5 days will be $210.00 USD. That will take care of your site from February 18th to 22nd, departing on the 23rd. Let me know soon and I can reserve your site.

SOI’s Vice President, Ben Rose, and Spouse, Nancy will be going back to South Africa again next year for the 5th time. They will be spending half of the Rolling Rally in Botswana with 4 wheel drive motorhomes and the balance of the 45 days will be in South Africa with Class C motorhomes. Ben & Nancy are the real experts on RV travel in South Africa. If you would like additional information you can contact them at [email protected] or by phone at 561-252-5150. Dates are August 7th, 2019 to September 20th, 2019.

We are working on a Calgary Stampede Rally for July 2020. If you are interested, please let us know. We are planning on 5 to 6 days at the stampede with Electric provided in a parking area next to the C-train for easy access to Downtown and the Stampede grounds.

Ben and Nancy and a few guests completed a Rolling Rally through the National Parks areas of Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada and Arizona. We would like to start offering this Rolling Rally in the Fall with the possibility of tying it into the Balloon Fiesta or a fall Las Vegas Rally.

We are actively looking for members that would like to train to lead any of these Rolling Rallies or would like some help developing your own Rally to a great location.

Rocky Point, Mexico

You won't want to miss our 3rd annual trek down to Rocky Point from February 17th to the 23rd. We still have plenty of room for anyone that would like to spend some time right on the Gulf of Mexico. I do mean right on because we have reserved the Water Front sites with 50 Amp service, water and sewer. You will be able to pull your RV straight in toward the water so all you see out of the windshield is the beach and water. Trailers and 5 th Wheels can back in and have the same great view out their windows.

We have a great program planned and all at almost half of what the commercial companies charge. We will rally in Gila Bend, AZ at the KOA and then cross the border the next morning for the short drive to Rocky Point. We will be escorted from the Mexican border to our campground. Our first night we will go to dinner at El Capitan with great views over the Gulf of Mexico and the city from one of the highest points in the area. We will visit the downtown area, breakfast at Ramon’s, lunch at Point Restaurant, Sunset Cruise on the Gulf and have our farewell dinner at Blu Mare before we head back across the border. All this for $895.00, which includes the $50 discount for SOI members. You can’t beat 5 days parked on the beach in February. You can sign up on our web site or give me a call.

The other reason to go is the great paint and repair work they are able to do. Last year I had my refrigerator cover painted (4 colors with design) for $100 and another rig was repainted around the top where some rigs tend to peel for a very reasonable rate. If you have any minor dents, dings or paint issues you won’t find a more reasonable place to have it repaired. Highly recommended.

Taste of Las Vegas

We will be hosting our annual Las Vegas Rally March 31st to April 4th 2019. This one is booking up fast, so if you are interested in spending some quality time in Las Vegas you need to reserve your spot now. You won’t want to miss 4 nights/5 days in Las Vegas with included breakfast each morning, Cirque du Soleil Show, tour to Hoover Dam, Lake Mead cruise and a dinner show. Along with all this, plenty of time to visit many of the free shows on the strip. We will be staying at Oasis RV park with full hookup, 50 Amp service and easy access to downtown Las Vegas. All this for only $985.00 for SOI members. Get your $200 deposit in now to hold your spot.
